it’s time to abandon your comfort zone
…and here’s what you should take with you.
I started this blog as a dare to myself.
Writing has been like a six-eyed artistic monster taunting me from my subconscious. Luring me to act, but I was never brave enough to face it. I knew I was creating a false story in my head. Yet year after year I’d pick up the digital pen and spill my guts for a few blissful days, only to ultimately lay it back down defeated and unsatisfied.
So why am I doing this?
Why put myself out there to be seen and read?
Because it scares me.
Doing something new can be super vulnerable and scary.
Questions of doubt, expectations and insecurities creep in and try to push you off of your path.
Can you relate to that feeling?
Well y’all, what I’ve come to know is that life’s vulnerable moments can serve as fertile ground for growth.
Below I’m sharing three tips to get you out of your comfort zone and into flow for your next great idea!
#1 - Talk with a Good Therapist
Therapy has changed my life for the better. It’s created space for me to safely explore my emotions in order to become a better person. I know it may seem scary to talk to a therapist, but if we can get a physical trainer for our bodies and a mechanic for our vehicles, then we can get a licensed professional to help us work through the sticky parts of life.
If therapy isn’t in your budget right now I recommend talking to a close friend and listening to podcasts. One of my favorites to listen to is called Therapy for Black Girls Podcast. Dr. Joy Harden Bradford is a licensed phycologist based in Atlanta, Ga and has created a platform that leaves no subject untouched. Take a listen, I know you’ll love it!
#2 - Use CBD for daily balance
It’s natural. It’s legal. And it works. I’ve been using CBD for over eight years and let me tell you- it’s come a long way! The fact that I can casually talk about CBD in public is incredible. In the early days of CBD people were passionately skeptical of anything slightly related to cannabis. Whether because of the injustices served to Black women and men over the use of it, addiction or religious preferences CBD stood as an item of contention here in the United States.
For the past year I’ve been using only *Brown Girl Jane tinctures. Brown Girl Jane is a Black Woman owned company that focuses not only on making quality CBD but also the overall health of Black women and all people. I’m proud to be an ambassador for Brown Girl Jane and I hope you’ll give them a try if you’re interested in adding CBD to your self care ritual.
#3 - Find an Accountability Buddy
I have a work wife and she’s bomb! One thing I’ve always appreciated about our friendship is that we hold each other accountable to our goals. It’s one thing to declare that you have a great idea, it’s a whole other thing to set actions to those ideas and create something resembling your goal.
Yes, there are some people who can hold themselves accountable and don’t need the outside push. But for the rest of us, knowing that someone is expecting to hear an update on your progress can prove helpful in actually finishing a project.
Who can you reach out to- to be your accountability buddy?
I see this blog as an opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. I’m sure there will be challenges along the way. Bumps and bruises on my path, but I also know I’ll come out the other end stronger than ever before!
